Welcome to the fourth edition of feature: “Stories From Taiwanese Children”. The assignment was to write about a place you want to visit. It doesn’t matter where it is, as long as you wanted to visit the place. This story was from a student in my class. It’s a story about his father’s job. I guess of all the places he wanted to visit, his father’s work place was on the top of his list, how sweet.

This will now be a new feature on the blog. “Stories From Taiwanese Children” will be contain short stories written by children in Taiwan(duh). Most likely my students, but anyone is welcome to submit a story to be featured here. To submit a story click on the “Email Me!” link. The first story was blogged under the title “Translation Disaster!”. This story was written by a 12 year old Taiwanese boy. He was shown a picture of Link from the “Legend of Zelda” game series and was told to write a story about it. The picture showed Link battling a monster bat. Below is the work he turned in. Enjoy.

The Magic Forest
He is a man. He always wants to die. One day he goes crazy. He wants to fight with a monster, but the monster lives in the magic forest. He goes by plane. He doesn’t have any money so the pilot kicks him out the door.
He flies to the magic forest and jumps on the monster. The monster is angry. It uses fire to kill people. Then the man dies in the forest.
The god comes to the forest. The man comes back to life, but the monster goes crazy now. It uses fire and all the trees are burnt. The man’s clothes are all burnt. He takes his sword to kill the monster. The monster dies in the lake. The man goes crazy. He jumps into the lake. The god is the winner. He is happy. -The End
Any guess what this child will grow up to be?

The following story is from a new student of mine. Her name is Sophie and she is 9 years old. The class had an assignment to write a story about anything they can think of. The only rule was they had to use 25 words from a list of about 100 words. The following is an exact copy of what she turned in, word for word.
Panda Family and Penguin Family
Before able amphibian a family, another family accordingly panda family, admiral accordingly penguin family. Less amphibian departure able. Panda mother, panda father, panda sister and panda brother.
Penguin family abandoned ace accordingly, penguin aunt, penguin cousin, penguin grandfather and the grandmother, as well as penguin uncle and mother.
Amphibian amateur feeling considerably addict. Someday panda mother maternity!
She angry Siamese twin, one boy one girl. All considerably charming. But penguin cooler allergic panda dreadnaught? I don’t no. The End.
Confused? Yeah me too. What she did was she wrote the whole story out in Chinese and then used a dictionary to word for word translate. The end result speaks for itself.
