It’s that time again! Chinese New Year! Awesome! WooHoo! Oh wait, I forgot, I don’t care. You know what? I’m just gonna say it right now. Fuck Chinese New Year!
This “holiday” is meaningless and retarded. Guess what? No one follows your stupid calendar, it’s pointless. This “holiday” does not need to be a week for people not to do business, and give them an excuse to burn paper money to stink up the air even more. What other holiday can you think of that gives people a week off when the holiday is only one day? None.
It’s funny that the people here get pissy when I don’t celebrate their holiday, and claim I don’t respect their culture. Well my culture says your holiday is dumb, respect that! They want to force a meaningless thing on me, which pisses me off, and get upset when I don’t play along. I thought I left that shit back home with the christians, but I guess irrationality is worldwide.
If the holiday was one day, that would be fine. Light your fireworks, play your mahjong, eat your hotpot, and then go back to work. But since you have to make it a week and cost me money then I just have to say “fuck you”.
To sum it up: Chinese New Year is as meaningless to me, as St. Patrick’s day is to an African baby.
This post is dedicated to my mother. For without her, man would not know evil(me not her). While Mother’s Day isn’t really celebrated much in Taiwan (at least the western version) I still remember. Since once again I can’t be there to say it, this is the next best thing. Here are some famous quotes about mothers that I have gathered. If anyone has anymore add them to the comment and I will include them in the post.
“A suburban mother’s role is to deliver children obstetrically once, and by car forever after.”
“It would seem that something which means poverty, disorder and violence every single day should be avoided entirely, but the desire to beget children is a natural urge.”
“Women’s Liberation is just a lot of foolishness. It’s the men who are discriminated against. They can’t bear children. And no one’s likely to do anything about that.”
“All women become like their mothers. That is their tragedy. No man does. That’s his.”
“When you are a mother, you are never really alone in your thoughts. A mother always has to think twice, once for herself and once for her child.”
“Mothers are fonder than fathers of their children because they are more certain they are their own.”
“A man loves his sweetheart the most, his wife the best, but his mother the longest.”
“God could not be everywhere and therefore he made mothers.”
“You don’t really understand human nature unless you know why a child on a merry-go-round will wave at his parents every time around - and why his parents will always wave back.”
“Parents often talk about the younger generation as if they didn’t have anything to do with it.”
On Saturday I went down to Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall to check out the lantern festival. It’s a yearly event where people from all over the country come to show off their lantern making skills. I haven’t been to one in 2 years, since last year I remember it being cold and rainy. I also remember the first one I went to was somewhere near Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall. I picked a great day to go too, since the next 5 days after that was all shitty cold and raining.
I finally have my Flickr Pro account back up and running thanks to my parents(Thanks Mom and Dad!) So I have uploaded a lot of the pictures I took at the event there. Not only do I have sets up for the Lantern Festival, but I also have set for my trip to Kenting and Taizhong!
Not only do I have pictures for you, but I took a short little movie of it too for you. The movie is of a HUGE display they had in the center of CKS that rotated and played music. At about the middle of the movie you can hear me yelling at some stupid woman who decided to stop directly in front of my camera. First I yell in English and switch to Chinese. Enjoy!
Ah… 30 long years ago you shot out of our mother’s vagina, and when she saw you were a girl she had to wait 2 more years till she got it right. Of course I’m thankful she had it in her(pun?), but let’s focus on you. Today is your 30th birthday, and just so you know at midnight, when your birthday is over, your eyes will bug out!(inside joke)
You being born was the most special thing that happened on that day, but here is what else happened:
Shuttle Enterprise makes 1st test flight atop a 747 jetliner (Explains a lot!)
I am very glad I have a sister like you. Who is almost as smart as me, almost as good looking, and almost as talented. I wouldn’t trade you for any other sister in the whole wide world. I hope you have a super fantastic birthday. Love you Big Sis!
Happy Chinese New Year! 2007 is the Year of the Pig. This is a year where you are suppose to be all relaxed and chilled.
This new year is particularly special as it is “The Year of the Golden Pig”, when a pig year combines with a fire element year - this happens every 60 years and heralds an extremely lucky and prosperous year. The Chinese believe a child born this year in “The Year of the Golden Pig” will be blessed with a carefree, wealthy and loving life!
Ahhh….work is over. Christmas here doesn’t feel like Christmas without the snow. Now I truly get the lyrics to the song “White Christmas“. After work I came home and had some Christmas pizza. I’m happy this year since I didn’t have to dress up as Santa once! Every year some school or another forces me to put on the costume, but thankfully not this year. I did buy the hat, but that hat is pimp and bitches love it.
In class I designed and taught my kids how to make a paper snowman. Mine totally came out the best of them all. How many snowman do you see wearing an iPod?
Merry Christmas to you all! Now I’m gonna go put on my Santa hat and get some “ho ho hos”
Not much to report. Haven’t bought anything for Christmas yet, as the stuff I will probably want will be released/announced in January. I want the Nintendo Wii, but they are in short supply at the moment and the importers here want twice the price for a US one. $250 isn’t bad for the sweet ass system, but there is no way in hell I’m spending $500 for it. So either I’ll want to see what Apple announces in January or I’ll hold out until I can get a US Wii. Hope everyone is having fun on this holiday, I have to work.
